Historical Background

The Rural Integrated Center for Community Empowerment (RICCE) is a non- governmental organization dully registered and accredited by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs. RICCE was established by development specialists, Engineers, health professionals, grassroots activists and some professors at the University of Liberia who were alarmed by the conditions of rural residents in 2005.  At the time (and still now), the rural people were neglected in political decision-making,ceconomic opportunities, better schools, hospitals and basic protection of fundamental human rights.  Generally, these ideas were formulated and various committees constituted to work on the vision and core programs.

However, RICCE did not get-off the ground because some of the key members traveled for studies abroad and others got employment with international NGOs. In the meantime, the commitment of organizers did not fade away. Consequently in 2006, some members organized RICCE and invited new members on board. Over the years RICCE has established partnership with both national and international organizations in advocacy and the implementation of projects.

RICCE mission is to empower and motivate rural residents to become proactive in addressing the issues that impact their lives daily.  Encourage and nurture the support network needed in poor and disadvantaged communities to make them vibrant and self-sustaining .

Our Values

RICCE is committed to working for the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals (UNMDG).

  • We believe in the philosophy that the better way to help a people is to teach them how to do it themselves.
  • We believe that what is measured gets done.  Our achievement will be measured by the increased participation of many rural communities in the decisions that affect them.   RICCE will help to lift them   out of poverty.
  • We are committed to the highest standards of ethics and integrity. We are responsible to our donors and the communities we work in.  Our interactions with people we work with must reflect the high standards we profess.
  • We recognize that the ability to excel - to most competitively meet   rural residents' needs - depends on the integrity, knowledge, imagination, skill, diversity and teamwork of our members.
